More Than Coffee — A Stage for Our Town
At Kape Maria, we’ve always wanted to be more than a place for coffee and food. Over time, we’ve had the privilege of becoming a small stage for the people around us.
It’s not lost on us how far this has come. We started as a one-woman pop-up at our front gate, just hoping people would stop by. Having a place of our own now, and being able to offer that stage to others, is something our whole team is proud of.
We hosted Mukna Collective, who put a spotlight on Partido’s local talent, with artists performing their own Bicol songs for the first time right here in the coffee house. There’s something rare about being in the room when a song is heard for the very first time.
A “Mayday! Mayday!” jam on Labor Day during the Lagonoy fiesta to introduce new artists. A Halloween party. Trivia night with QQ Nights. And plenty of art, music, and photo-walk gatherings whenever someone had something to share.
Big shout-out to Casa sa Baybay, Komún and Community Recording for making all of this happen. We’re grateful to learn from a community that shows up and supports one another.
It all comes back to why we opened: to be useful in the small ways we can. We’re a small town, but there’s no shortage of talent, stories, and people worth gathering for. If Kape Maria can be where that happens, then we’re doing what we set out to do.
